05/21/2013
Teens to learn important lessons for relationships and healthy living

Palmetto Health invites teens and parents to the 2013 Teen Health Summit, “Press Pause: Think B4 You Play,” Friday, June 14, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Dreher High School, 3319 Millwood Ave., Columbia. This free event will help teens learn the consequences of risky behavior, which often increases during the summer. Students in 6-12th grade are invited. Registration and parent/guardian permission are required.

This year’s theme, “Press Pause: Think B4 You Play,” will include educational sessions on sexuality, healthy relationships, health and nutrition, bullying, and college life. Parents also can learn about these topics in a separate session just for them.

Teens who register before June 1 will be entered into a drawing for a $500 shopping spree to Columbiana Center. Two additional $250 shopping sprees also will be given away. Lunch will be provided for free from Chick-Fil-A and the day will conclude with an ice cream social from Baskin-Robbins.

Free transportation is available for the Lower Richland community. Pick-up times and locations are as follows:
• 7 a.m. at Webber Elementary, 140 Webber School Road, Eastover
• 7:30 a.m. at Lower Richland High School, 2615 Lower Richland Blvd., Hopkins

Registration beings Monday, May 13. For more information or to register, call 803-296-CARE (2273). Online registration for the event also is available at PHTeenHealthSummit2013.eventbrite.com.

This annual event is part of Palmetto Health's ongoing teen health initiatives. Programs and events are held throughout the year including Teen Talk, ParenTeen and Freshman Focus. To learn more, please visit PalmettoHealth.org/CommunityHealth.
