Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital expects 1,700 first-graders to tour
EVENT: Children and Health Care Week at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital
WHEN: Monday, March 25-Friday, March 29, 2013
TIME: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
PLACE: Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, 7 Richland Medical Park Drive
ABOUT: Midlands first-graders from 17 schools get a hands-on learning experience in a unique “mini hospital” setting at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. The tour explores the hospital from a child’s point of view and provides an environment conducive to learning. The event is part of an international public awareness campaign designed to help children and the community learn more about the health care needs of children and their families. This event has been so well received in the Midlands that the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital Child Life department sponsors the event each fall and spring to include as many first graders as possible.
Hands-on learning stations staffed by professionals from Palmetto Health and Richland County EMS include ambulance tours, surgery station, lab station, poison control station, x-ray station, physical therapy station and children’s emergency department and patient room tours.
