June 2: Women’s Health Day:
Attend “Women’s Health in Full Bloom,” from 8:30 a.m.– 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., ground-floor auditorium. This free event will feature motivational speakers as well as lunch, music, prizes and an exercise session. Health information booths also will be available. From 8–11 a.m., those who qualify can receive a free clinical breast exam, mammogram and diabetes blood test. Women are invited to bring their husbands for free diabetes and prostate screenings. June 8: Teen Health Summit:
Teens and parents are invited to attend the 2012 Palmetto Health Teen Summit, “Dating & Waiting,” from 8 a.m. –3 p.m. on Friday, June 8, at Dreher High School, 3319 Millwood Avenue, Columbia. This free event will give teens an opportunity to discuss a variety of health topics and help each other understand the consequences of risky behavior, which often increases during the summer. Students in 6–12th grade are invited. Registration and parent/guardian permission are required. Free transportation is available for the Lower Richland community. Pick-up times and locations are as follows:
• 7 a.m. at Webber Elementary, 140 Webber School Road, Eastover
• 7:30 a.m. at Lower Richland High School, 2615 Lower Richland Blvd., Horrell Hill

June 14: Lymphedema Support Group:
Individuals and caregivers dealing with lymphedema are invited to join Palmetto Health’s free lymphedema support group. The group will meet from meet 11 a.m.–12 p.m., Thursday, June 14, at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St. in Meeting Room 2, ground-floor. This month’s topic is “Helpful Management Tips for Lymphedema during the Heat of Summer.” Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 803-296-3564.
Attend an educational diabetes seminar from 6–7 p.m., Thursday, June 14, at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St. in Classroom D & E. As part of the Palmetto Health Diabetes Education Program, the topic for this month’s seminar is “Tips for Managing Diabetes Distress.” People living with diabetes and their family members will learn about diabetes and lifestyle changes that are helpful in managing this condition. Free Diabetes Screenings:

Free Cancer Screenings:
Palmetto Health offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30–7 p.m., and the second Saturday of every month, 8 a.m.–12 p.m. at Palmetto Health Women’s Center, 1801 Sunset Drive. Healthy Palmetto Walking Program:

Stuffed Animal Donations:
Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital is in need of stuffed animals for children who are in hospital. The stuffed animals will be given to pediatric patients at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital and later will be taken home by the child. Because of infection control guidelines and respiratory illnesses, stuffed animals must be new and store-bought. If you are interested in giving, call Allison Jones at 803-434-2151.
