Palmetto Health Hospice Offers Volunteer Training
Palmetto Health Hospice is offering “Friends of Hospice” volunteer training from 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Dec. 19 and 20 at Palmetto Health Hospice, 1400 Pickens St. The hospice volunteer program needs men and women with a wide range of interests and skills to assist terminally ill patients and their caregivers. No previous medical experience is required. Those interested must register by Saturday, Dec. 15.

Palmetto Health Hospice is comprehensive program that helps individuals diagnosed with a terminal illness live more comfortably at home using a multi-disciplinary team that includes volunteers. Volunteers play an active role relieving patient caregivers when they need a break. They also provide companionship, read to patients, run errands and driver patients to appointments. The training program provides the background needed to help a prospective volunteer understand the needs of the terminally ill patient.

Palmetto Health Hospice provides care to terminal patients and their families in 11 counties across the state including Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Saluda and Sumter counties.

For more information, call the Palmetto Health Hospice regional volunteer coordinator, Vicki Busby at 803-296-3143.
