To provide patients with the most comprehensive evaluation and treatment options, Palmetto Health Heart Hospital has developed the first Valve Center in the Midlands. Our multidisciplinary team consisting of cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and a valve coordinator will help patients learn about their heart valve related disorder, be evaluated for intervention and have in depth discussions regarding treatment options.

Candidates for the Valve Center may have a variety of heart valve issues including congenital defects, issues as a result of aging or even untreated infection. Patients could have no symptoms initially if the valve disorder is mild. As it progresses, depending on the type of heart valve disorder present, they could experience:

  • Chest pains
  • Irregular heartbeats or racing heartbeats
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Shortness of breath, especially with activity
  • Fainting spells

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is the latest procedure that allows replacement of a diseased aortic heart valve without open heart surgery.

The Valve Center's focused approach allows our team to optimally evaluate, treat and manage the patient's heart valve condition.
