Inspired all the way to Chicago...
Stephany Branham put her passion for caring at Palmetto Health into her entry in the 'Be Inspired' contest, open to all employees. In it, she sought in 75 words or less to express what fires her up to come to work every day.
Her remarkable effort, one of about 50 entries, prevailed in the vote of her peer employees, earning Branham, who works as the Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) coordinator in the Heart Hospital, a trip to Chicago in October:
"Working at Palmetto Health is an opportunity to be face-to-face, hand-to-hand, and heart-to-heart with people at their best and worst moments. A job here isn't always easy. We see life begin and end. But, it's in those precious moments that we can make a difference in the life of another human being. That connection is what makes us want to work harder, go farther, and care stronger."
In Chicago, Branham accepted on behalf of Palmetto Health the award as one of the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare from Modern Healthcare magazine at a gala event. "That was awesome," she said. It's the fourth consecutive year Palmetto Health has received the award.
While in the Windy City, she and her husband got time to sightsee and even tried some of Chicago's famous pizza one evening.
She attended the Studer Group conference on best healthcare practices and even met company founder Quint Studer himself. Branham was pleased to find that many things Studer Group highlighted as best practices at the conference already are being done at Palmetto Health. The conference taught her some new strategies on quality and inspired her to return to Palmetto Health re-energized. "It really did pump you up to come here and do good things," she said.
She and her entry also are being featured in a series of print advertisements for Palmetto Health.
