We Can Help. Programs and Sevices for:

The South Carolina Cancer Center offers a variety of support programs for adults and children with cancer and their families, as well as psychosocial oncology services. These programs may help identify positive ways of dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and blood disorders.

A variety of support groups, individual services, retreats and educational programs provide resources for recovery and emotional healing. Most of these services are provided free of charge. Phone numbers, and in some cases e-mail addresses, are given for requesting more information on any of the following services or programs.

What are the 'types' of support groups?
The main thing that separates different types of support groups is whether they are peer support (which means they are run by someone who has had cancer, and has "been through it") or are professional (which means they are run by professionally trained social workers or counselors). Both offer something of value. All of the support groups sponsored by the South Carolina Cancer Center are led by trained professionals.

Why should I join a support group?
Sometimes it is helpful to turn to someone "outside" of family and friends. This does not mean family and friends should be ignored. However, support groups leaders may be better able to provide resources or information.
