Sometimes Words Are Not Enough
The book, Sometimes Words Are Not Enough, offers patients, families and friends a glimpse into the inner world of cancer patients. Featured are original artworks by patients with no art training. These cancer survivors created artworks to tell their cancer story. Patients range in age from 21 to 70. Diagnoses include multiple myeloma, breast cancer, prostate cancer, Hodgkin’s disease, and retinoblastoma. The multi-media pieces, icons and masks, were created using personal memorabilia, objects from nature, collage and paint. Through each piece, the viewer learns that the creative process has the power to transform the trauma of cancer into a healing experience. The book features the stories of 15 cancer survivors, their artwork and their reflections on each piece. This book was developed through Arts and Healing, a support program of the South Carolina Cancer Center.
