The Center for Pain Management at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia, South Carolina, is a comprehensive center for treatment of acute and chronic pain. Patients may be referred by their physicians for evaluation of a full range of pain problems: acute, chronic/malignant and benign. Frequently patients referred for treatment have been injured on the job and have been unable to return to work because of debilitating pain and physical limitations. 	Intervention Pain Management - Physicians board-certified in pain management provide rapid relief from pain through state-of- the-art procedures such as: epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, intrathecal morphine pumps, spinal cord stimulators and radio frequency lesioning.
	Chronic Pain Program - Patients learn to manage their pain and regain functioning in all aspects of life including family relations, work and pleasurable activities. This intensive treatment program utilizes a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach.
	Work Reconditioning - Patients work toward maximizing gains in strength, endurance and flexibility. Treatment is tailored toward return to work. Initial vocational assessment, job site analysis, vocational counseling and functional capacity evaluations are pertinent components of this program.
	Headache Program - Patients learn techniques for reducing the intensity and frequency of headaches. Medical management, biofeedback, counseling and physical therapy are used to help patients balance their physical needs and life's demands to control their headaches.
	Problem-specific Treatment and Assessment - Staff can adapt all aspects of treatment at The Center for Pain Management to meet a patient's individual needs. Services frequently prescribed on an individual basis include: physical therapy; occupational therapy; vocational assessment and counseling; functional capacity evaluation; job site analysis; independent medical evaluation; EMG/diagnostic studies; and biofeedback training.
