Dr. Watson was born in Atlanta, Georgia and received his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Kennesaw State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He then went on to receive his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. Dr. Watson then completed his General Surgery training in Columbia, SC at Palmetto Health Richland and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Prior to completing a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Virginia Health System, Dr. Watson served as General Surgeon at the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center.
Dr. Watson is is board certified by the American Board of Surgery – General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
Dr. Watson is currently with the Division of Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care, providing care to critically injured and ill patients, as well as elective general surgery patients. He is joined by four additional surgeons, in addition to a large supporting staff of Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Social Workers, Rehabilitation Therapists, Registered Dieticians, and Patient Educators. This multidisciplinary approach to care ensures a comprehensive approach to all aspects of patient care well into recovery. Dr. Watson's surgical interests include:
