Dr. Steen has practiced in the Columbia area since 1991. She completed her residency training at Palmetto Health Richland where she served as chief resident. After graduation, she joined Northeast Family Practice as a private practice physician. Three years later she was recruited to teach at the USC School of Medicine, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, where she stayed for the next 13 years. As a clinician and teacher she received more than 20 teaching awards and was recognized statewide with The Halford Award for Leadership in Humane Education. During her time at USC, she held numerous leadership and administrative positions. She then moved to Senior Primary Care because of a desire to return to direct patient care. She has always found that she is most fulfilled when she is caring directly for patients.
In March 2015, Dr. Steen opened Ballentine Family Medicine, where she serves as medical director. Ballentine Family Medicine is co-located with Ballentine Family YMCA. Dr. Steen's clinical interests include chronic disease management, women's health, pediatrics, and health and wellness.
