Women's Programs
We understand that the more you know about the childbirth experience, the more comforable you'll feel. Women's & Children's Services at Palmetto Health Baptist offers a variety of classes to educate both you and your family about childbirth, breastfeeding and related topics.
Our childbirth education program is designed to meet your special education needs and prepare you and your family for your pregnancy, birth, and parenting experience. Each class description lists the time during pregnancy that we recommend you take the class. We recommend that you register for classes in your first trimester.

Class Descriptions |
| Preparation for Childbirth This series focuses on how to prepare for the birth of your baby including the birthing process, relaxation techniques, breathing techniques and using a coach/partner to aid in labor and delivery. Instruction includes Birthplace options, variations in labor, birth and anesthesia, early fetal development and nutrition. A tour is included. Special Instructions: This class is only open to those expectant parents who plan to deliver at Palmetto Baptist as some of the information is pertinent only to those patients. Each series of classes includes approximately 12 hours of instruction and meets for six weeks (2 hours per night each week), or as a weekend class. Wear comfortable clothes and bring two pillows with you the first night of class. When to Register: First Trimester When to Attend: Third Trimester – You should complete your classes three to four weeks before your due date. | Prepared for Cesarean Birth This class is designed for those who are anticipating a cesarean birth. This one-time class will provide you with information about the reasons for cesarean birth, the surgical procedure, comfort strategies to reduce discomfort, benefits and risks to mother and baby, and the recovery process. No tour will be provided with the class. | Diabetes and Pregnancy If you already have diabetes or gestational diabetes, you may schedule an educational consult with a diabetes educator and a dietician. The consult includes instruction on the relationship between pregnancy and diabetes, nutrition, exercise, self-monitoring, blood glucose, urine ketones and insulin adjustments. Call 296-8906 and ask to speak to one of the diabetes educators for more information. |
