Support

The Breast Center offers a variety of support programs and services that provide resources for recovery and emotional healing.

Breast Cancer Support Groups 

Bosom Buddies and Surviving With Friends are breast cancer patient support groups. Group discussions are led by a facilitator regarding coping skills during the breast cancer experience. Programs may also be presented by professional educators in the area of breast cancer. Select the day and time that works best for you:

  • Bosom Buddies – Second Tuesday of each month, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter Street, Breast Center building, ground level. Call (803) 296-2378 for more information.
  • Surviving With Friends – Second Wednesday of each month, 5:30–6:30 p.m. at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter Street, Breast Center building, ground level. Call (803) 296-2378 for more information. 

Breast Health Nurse Navigators – Patient Educators  

Our multidisciplinary approach to care is to tailor education and treatment to each patient's specific diagnosis, personality, lifestyles and desires. The Nurse Navigators individually educate and support our patients from the point of their diagnosis throughout the end of their medical treatment.

Libraries for Cancer Resources
Browse through the reference books or take some free brochures to learn more about cancer, how to treat cancer and tips for caregivers. Internet access is provided for additional information.

Spiritual Care
Chaplains are available to provide spiritual support or connect patients and their families with a minister, rabbi, priest or faith-group leader.

  • The chapels at both campuses are open 24 hours a day for prayer and meditation.

Thank you!  The 22nd annual Palmetto Health Foundation Walk for Life/Race for Life, which included the inaugural 10K Race for Life, was a tremendous success. More than 6,000 walkers and runners participated in this event on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012. Together, participants helped raise more than $550,000, including in-kind donations, for the Palmetto Health Breast Center! Save the date to join us for the 23rd annual event on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.
