Residents and fellows are an integral part of research at Palmetto Health and we provide mentoring to young investigators. We have staff, including a physician, who assists investigators with their projects, from quality improvement (QI) to clinical trials. Our assistance includes the areas of literature review, proposal development, grant submission, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. Research administration (RA) partners with clinical departments both at the level of providing research lectures as well as working with individual investigators. As many residents and fellows perform quality improvement projects, we have developed a close collaboration between RA and QI.
Resident Research Day
The 2014 Resident Research Day at Palmetto Health will be held Friday, May 30 in the atrium of the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital. The event will showcase the medical research, case studies and quality improvement projects performed by medical, dental and pharmacy residents and fellows of Palmetto Health and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Grant In Aid Award for Resident Research
The Richland Memorial Hospital Research and Education Foundation recognizes the importance of resident involvement in research activities as part of a comprehensive graduate medical education experience. It therefore wishes to support meritorious, resident-initiated projects primarily in the areas of health care delivery and social science research and to a lesser extent in clinical and basic research. Typically, up to four one year Grant-In-Aid awards of no more than $7,500 each will be made available annually. All projects are expected to be of such a nature that they can be completed in one year but no later than three months prior to graduation. These grants should be supplemental to departmental, service, or other institutional support. The Board of the Foundation, with the assistance of the Grant-In-Aid Review Committee, will competitively review these proposals, rank them in order of priority of merit, and fund those deemed most worthy of support within the financial resources available to the Board.
