Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Center

Palmetto Health expands upon a history of innovation and technology by offering the area's only
da Vinci® robotic-assisted surgery, the most advanced form of minimally invasive surgery. This advanced technique may be used for many gynecology, urology, pediatric, colorectal and gynecology/oncology surgeries.
By choosing a da Vinci® procedure, patients may experience the following benefits:
- Smaller surgical incisions (typically 1–2 cm)
- Reduced blood loss and need for transfusions
- Less post-operative pain and discomfort
- Less risk of infection
- Shorter hospital stay
- Faster recovery and return to normal daily activities
How does the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System work?
The da Vinci® Surgical System consists of an ergonomically designed surgeon's console, a patient cart with four interactive robotic arms, a high-performance vision system and patented EndoWrist® instruments. It is designed to enhace the surgeon's capabilities with high-definition 3D vision and a greatly magnified view.
Your doctor controls the da Vinci® System, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body. Though it is often called a "robot", the da Vinci® Surgical System cannot act on its own. Instead, the surgery is performed entirely by your doctor. Together, da Vinci® technology allows your doctor to perform complex procedures through a few tiny openings and to operate on areas of the body that are not easily accessible with usual surgical techniques.
