Dr. Jones was born in Johnson City, Tennessee and received his undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University (ETSU), graduating with highest honors. He then went on to receive his medical degree from ETSU's Quillen College of Medicine. Dr. Jones completed his General Surgery residency training at the University of South Carolina/Palmetto Health program in Columbia, SC. He has also completed fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care at the same institution. Dr. Jones decided to stay in Columbia after completion of his training and is excited to have joined and help establish one of Palmetto Health's newest physician practices, Palmetto Health Surgical Specialists. Dr. Jones is an active member of the Palmetto Health Richland Trauma Team and is the Associate Trauma Medical Director and Director of Process and Quality Improvement for the Trauma Department. He also holds a clinical assistant professor appointment with the University of South Carolina's Department of Surgery.
Dr. Jones is board certified by the American Board of Surgery – General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
Dr. Jones was active in his training in multiple research projects and plans to continue these endeavors throughout his career. He was winner/co-winner of the South Carolina American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma resident research paper competition in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010. He is active in many local, state, and national organizations including the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Jones was honored in his residency training with the Surgical Resident of the Year award in 2007–2008 and 2009–2010. He was the recipient of the Surgery Department Top Blade award for outstanding achievement and is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Jones is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Dr. Jones has interest in all areas of general surgery, trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and acute care surgery. He performs all general surgery, trauma surgery and some vascular surgery. He participates in management of critically ill patients in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit. He has particular interest in abdominal surgery including laparoscopic surgery, tumor surgery (surgical oncology), gallbladder/biliary surgery, colon, stomach, endocrine surgery, skin and soft tissue surgery, and hernia surgery (both open and laparoscopic).
Dr. Watson was born in Atlanta, Georgia and received his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Kennesaw State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He then went on to receive his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. Dr. Watson then completed his General Surgery training in Columbia, SC at Palmetto Health Richland and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Prior to completing a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Virginia Health System, Dr. Watson served as General Surgeon at the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center.
Dr. Watson is is board certified by the American Board of Surgery – General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
Dr. Reeves is originally from West Tennessee and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis with high honors. He received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. Following completion of both a General Surgical Residency and a Fellowship in Surgical Critical at Palmetto Health Richland and the University of South Carolina, Dr. Reeves joined Palmetto Health Surgical Specialists along with the Division of Trauma/Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery.
Dr. Reeves serves as Director of Outreach and Education for Palmetto Health Richland Trauma Services and holds a Clinical Instructor appointment with the University of South Carolina's Department of Surgery.
Dr. Reeves is is board certified by the American Board of Surgery – General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
James R. Stachowiak, PA-C
James was raised in Columbia, SC. He received his BS degree in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina in 1996. He received his Physician Assistant degree from Alderson Broaddus College, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He completed his medical rotations at West Virginia University Medical School, Morgantown in 2002. James practiced for five years with Columbia Neurosurgical Associates and two years with Riverside Surgical Associates before he joined Palmetto Health Surgical Specialist in 2010. He is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. James enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoys bowling, fishing and Gamecock football.
