Medical Benefits
Employees may choose from two medical plans. When employees choose either medical plan they are automatically enrolled in the Prescription Drug Program, which allows employees to obtain prescription drugs at retail pharmacies or through mail order with a co-payment. The two medical plans are:
- Palmetto Care Plan
- Smart Consumer Plan (a qualified high deductible health plan)
Dental Benefits
Employees may choose from two dental plans. The two dental plans are:
- High-option (100% coverage for routine cleanings)
- Low-option (100% coverage for routine cleanings)
To maximize benefits, Delta Dental's PPO and Premier network of providers are available.
Vision Benefits
This reimbursement plan provides coverage from any vision care provider and reimburses up to:
- $45 for eye exams
- $90 for lenses
- $60 for frames
- $150 for contact lenses
Flexible Spending Accounts
Employees may enroll in a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account and/or a Health Care Flexible Spending Account. These accounts allow employees to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible and predictable health care expenses not covered by health insurance and dependent care expenses for eligible dependents.

Health Savings Account
One of the biggest developments in healthcare in recent years is the introduction of the Health Savings Account (HSA). The HSA is a portable savings account used in combination with a qualified annual high deductible health plan to pay current medical expenses with tax-free dollars, or to save for future medical expenses. Palmetto Health's qualified high deductible health plan is the Smart Consumer Plan listed above. This means you are eligible to payroll deduct Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions and you receive contributions from Palmetto Health even if you elect not to contribute to the HSA.
Group Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
Palmetto Health pays 100% for eligible employees' basic group life insurance and AD&D of one (1) times annual base pay.
Voluntary Term Life Insurance
Eligible employees may purchase an additional one to eight times' annual base pay in term life insurance at group rates.
Voluntary Dependent Life Insurance
Eligible employees may purchase voluntary dependent life insurance coverage of $25,000 for spouse & $10,000 for child(ren) on each eligible dependent for $2.11 cents a pay period.
Short-term Disability
- No cost for eligible employees
- Weeks 1–13 at 50% of base pay, weeks 14–26 at 60% of base pay
- Three-day elimination period
- Maximum Benefit amount up to $4,000/week
Long-term Disability
- No cost for eligible employees
- Benefits payable at 60% of base pay after 180 days elimination period
- Maximum benefit amount up to $10,000/month
Retirement Savings Plan
403(b)/401(k) defined contribution plans administered by Fidelity
- Must be 21 years old and have one year of continuous service with Palmetto Health and be in an eligible employee status code to be eligible for the match. Palmetto Health will make a matching contribution to your account s indicated in the table below.

Education Tuition Assistance
Palmetto Health will reimburse, within institutional limits, tuition incurred by a regular full-time employee and a regular part-time employee (budgeted at least 24 hours per week) after 90 days of continuous employment provided the educational offering is related to Palmetto Health critical job needs, and meets the requirements for a degree. Support of tuition is subject to change based on Palmetto Health initiatives and/or budget constraints.

Paid Time Off
Benefit eligible employees accrue paid time off based on their number of years of service. This time is used for vacation, holidays, family illnesses, religious observances, preventive doctor visits, personal business, bereavement, funerals and any other unexpected absences.
