Pharmacy Residency Program
Palmetto Health has offered an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists accredited residency program in pharmacy practice since 1972. Housed at Palmetto Health Richland, a 649-bed regional teaching hospital that treats patients from every county in the state, we currently offer programs in general pharmacy practice, pediatrics, and critical care.
Our PGY1 residency is designed for students to become general practitioners and fully-integrated members of the interdisciplinary pharmacy, able to make medication recommendations in a variety of clinical settings. Training focuses on developing abilities to understand a wide range of diseases and disorders that occur in many patient types.
The PGY2 residency programs are designed to transition our PGY1 graduates into becoming a practitioner in a specialized practice, meeting the needs of either pediatric patients or critically ill patients. These programs equip graduates to be able to make complex medication recommendations in their respective patient population.
Graduates of each of our residencies are experienced in short-term research, and excel in their ability to teach other health professionals and those in training to be health professionals. They also acquire the experience necessary to exercise leadership and management skills for pharmacy in the health system.
