Convenience
The 76-bed hospital, located at I-26 and Lake Murray Boulevard, is being built on 75 acres of gently rolling landscape. The aesthetically pleasing, pedestrian friendly hospital campus will be developed with abundant living and green space and a limited number of curb cuts for improved traffic flow. The facility will serve the residents of Irmo, Harbison, Chapin, Dutch Fork and surrounding areas who currently are traveling downtown for acute care services.
Bringing the Best to You
The hospital will improve access to 24/7 emergency medical services. It will include medical and surgical inpatient units, an intensive care unit, labor and delivery unit and a newborn nursery, four operating rooms, outpatient care and diagnostic and treatment services including laboratory, imaging, pharmacy and more. Some services will continue to be provided by Palmetto Health's downtown facilities, including open heart surgery, trauma care, PET/CT scans, and Gamma Knife radiosurgery. The hospital will stabilize patients and provide rapid specialty care transfer, if required, for some services.
Services planned for the new hospital include:
- Emergency Department
- Cardiology (non-invasive)
- Endocrinology
- Ear, Nose & Throat
- Gastroenterology
- General Medicine
- General Surgery
- Intensive Care
- Newborn Nursery
- Obstetrics/Gynecology
- Orthopaedics
- Plastic Surgery
- Pulmonary Medicine
- Rehabilitation (outpatient)
- Urology
Investing in Your Community
The economic impact of Palmetto Health's $99 million building investment is significant. Construction of the hospital will create jobs, including 400 full-time hospital positions, and will stimulate economic development in spin-off businesses located near the hospital such as physician offices, medical equipment suppliers, hotels and restaurants. More than $2 million in road improvements were completed in November 2011 to enhance public safety and improve traffic circulation in the area surrounding the campus.
