Frequently Asked Questions
The PrimeTimes staff receive a variety of questions - everything from how long frozen chicken nuggets last in the freezer to how does one complete a hemoccult kit! And since we are the first to admit that we don't always know the answer, we rely heavily on the many departments in our hospitals. The following, however, are answers of which we are certain. If you have other PrimeTimes-related questions, drop us a line by clicking the CONTACT US tab above.
What are the benefits of PrimeTimes membership?
PrimeTimes benefits you in times of sickness and in health. For a complete list of benefits, go to the Benefits section.
How old does a person have to be before he or she can join PrimeTimes?
Anyone who is 55 years of age or older is eligible to join PrimeTimes.
What are the hospital discounts for which members are eligible?
PrimeTimes members are eligible for the following deductions...
- up to $40 off on a mammogram after insurance and/or Medicare pays
- up to $45 off on an osteoporosis screening after insurance and/or Medicare pays
In addition, PrimeTimes members receive a 30 percent discount on meals in the hospital cafeteria.
Can PrimeTimes staff assist with filing health insurance claims?
Yes, Julie Marchant in the PrimeTimes office (296-5978) assists members with filing health insurance claims. Many of the members she assists have experienced long illnesses and have a backlog of claims to file. She also assists members in their dealings with Medicare to resolve past claims.
How do PrimeTimes members get complimentary meal tickets when they are hospitalized?
PrimeTimes staff and volunteers check the daily admission report each weekday morning for newly admitted members. A volunteer or staff member will visit these members and deliver a packet that contains complimentary meal tickets that can be used by a family member or visitor to receive ONE discounted meal per day in the hospital cafeteria for up to 10 days of their stay. If the member is admitted on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, they will be visited on Monday morning since the office is closed weekends.
Where can a PrimeTimes membership application be picked up?
PrimeTimes membership applications are usually available at the Information Desk in the Taylor Street and Sumter Street lobbies. On Palmetto Health Richland's campus the applications are available in the Volunteer Services office. An application is also available online by clicking here. To receive an application by mail, please call the PrimeTimes office at 296-5978.
What is the fee to join PrimeTimes and how often is it due?
The fee for a lifetime membership is only $5 per person. If a couple joins, the fee is $10. A member of PrimeTimes staff who was presenting a program about PrimeTimes to a community group was introduced as the "best blue light special in town."
When is the PrimeTimes office open?
The PrimeTimes office is typically staffed from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Since many programs and events are offered each month at various locations in the community, there occasionally will be no staff or volunteers in the office.
What types of trips does PrimeTimes offer?
A variety of trips for PrimeTimes members are scheduled throughout the year including day trips, overnight trips and extended trips. These trips are typically made on well-equipped motorcoaches for the travelers' comfort and safety. A PrimeTimes staff person and a nurse travel on each bus. Although the itineraries obviously change from trip-to-trip, they typically feature well-appointed and comfortable accommodations, delicious meals, and a great deal of sightseeing. For additional information on upcoming trips, please call the PrimeTimes office at 296-5978.
The only requirement for membership is age - you must be at least 55 years old to join. Lifetime membership is only $5 per person. In a few weeks after we receive your application for membership, we will mail you a membership card and a PrimeTimes benefits brochure.
