Historic Columbia Walking Tour
Palmetto Health's Total Joint Center and Historic Columbia Foundation forged a unique partnership that began in 2004. Using Historic Columbia Foundation images as a central theme, the Total Joint Center developed a program that incorporates Columbia's unique history and historic buildings with patient rehabilitation following surgery. Thanks to the Historic Columbia Foundation you can take a walking tour right down your hall, while working out that new joint.
Now that you have a new and improved joint, you can take advantage of Historic Columbia Foundation's variety of walking tours that allow participants to explore Columbia's historic houses, neighborhoods, churches, cemeteries and other landmarks buildings. On the Total Joint Center floor, a modified Historic Columbia Walking Tour was created for patients. Photography depicting historic Columbia landmarks adorns the walls at 25 foot increments. Patients are encouraged to achieve different walking goals throughout their hospitalization. When leaving the hospital, patients are given free passes to visit the Historic Columbia Foundation’s house museums as encouragement to continue walking, exercising and moving their joints.
