Women's Health Classes

Childbirth Education
Offered to mothers-to-be and their partners, this four-week course is designed to prepare you for the birth experience and parenthood. Included is a tour of Stork's Landing plus films on childbirth, labor and anesthesia. Plan to attend during your last trimester; early registration is requested as space is limited. Payment must accompany all class registrations. Class registrations can be taken over the phone once payment has been received.
Special Instructions: Each series of classes includes approximately eight hours of instruction except for the Saturday class which is approximately six hours.
- When to Register: First Trimester
- When to Attend: Third Trimester – You should complete your classes three to four weeks before your due date. 4-Week Series, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Saturday Workshop Series, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
- Fee: $60 per couple for 4-week class. $50 per couple for one day Saturday class.
Refund Policy: You must cancel five (5) working days prior to class date in order to receive a refund. You will not receive a refund after the scheduled class date.
Comenzando Bien
Comenzando Bien es un curso de educación prenatal que dura cuatro semanas, o doce horas en total, para familias latinas que viven en el área de Columbia. El currículo, enseñado completamente en español, incluye cómo tomar decisiones saludables durante el embarazo, dónde encontrar y cómo utilizar los recursos locales de salud, la lactancia materna, el proceso del parto, el cuidado del recién nacido, y la seguridad con los asientos infantiles.

Straight Talk About Breastfeeding
This class for expectant moms provides information about breastfeeding, including the benefits, preparation, infant positioning for feedings, how to tell if an infant is feeding well, choosing the right breast pump, as well as participation by new fathers.

Baby Basics
Prepares expectant parents in the routine care of their newborn baby.

Infant CPR
All parents should know the fundamentals of CPR to be used should your child ever need it. CPR is offered to parents or caregivers for infants born at Palmetto Health Richland. This class is not intended for certification purposes.

Daddy Boot Camp
This class is a dad-to-dad training program that prepares new dads for the challenges and joys of fatherhood. The "drool" instructor encourages men to get involved from the beginning and stay involved in the life of their child. The dad-in-training will learn about life during pregnancy, helping at home, delivery room duties, caring for mom and baby after the birth, safety on the road and at home, bonding, as well as balancing work and family.
- Class Dates: February 9, May 18, August 24, November 16
- Time: 6:30–8:30 p.m.
- Fee: $15 per person
Safe Sitter Basics
This course teaches adolescent baby sitters, ages 11 through 13, how to keep the children they are watching safe and secure while their parents are away. Participants in this course emerge as more confident, responsible and compassionate teens and adults, ready to handle creises, as well as nurture and guide the children they care for.

- Fee: $40 per person
Kids Klass
Children ages three years and older learn how to hold, diaper and feed a baby; tour the nursery and LDR rooms, see a film and receive goodies to prepare for the new baby.

Car Seat Safety Class
Midland's Safe Kids led by Children's Hospital offers a child passenger safety class. Participants will view a child passenger safety video, learn the proper way to install infant and booster child safety seats and, finally, demonstrate their knowledge.
