Trauma Patient Information
To facilitate rapid entry into the system and to protect patients of violent crime, trauma patients at Palmetto Health Richland are not initially admitted to the hospital by name, but are assigned trauma numbers when they enter the Emergency Department. If you are looking for a patient and do not have their trauma number, you may experience difficulty obtaining information. This is due, in part, to our patient identification system and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that addresses patient privacy issues. These numbers are given to the immediate family of the patient upon their arrival and no one can receive information without this number. We suggest other relatives and friends contact the patient's family for information about the patient's progress.
Contact the Trauma Administrative Office Monday through Friday 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. for assistance. After hours, contact the hospital operator at 803-434-7000 and ask for the Administrator on Duty.
Click Here to go to the DMV website and enter your EMERGENCY CONTACT person, so that in the event of an emergency your loved ones are notified.
Patients often are seen in one of many clinics for follow-up care after discharge from the hospital. The clinic you are scheduled to visit is based upon your needs. If you were seen by a specialty physician, you may be seen in his office for follow-up.
Should you have questions regarding your follow-up appointment, please contact the clinic listed on your discharge instructions. Please report to the appropriate clinic where your appointment is scheduled.
