Healthgrades, Inc. is a private, for profit organization, founded in 1999, designed to provide ratings and profiles of hospitals, nursing homes and physicians to consumers, corporations, health plans and hospitals. These ratings are based on Medicare data only.
Visitors to HealthGrades.com find quality ratings and cost information for the nation's 5,000 hospitals and 16,000 nursing homes as well as in-depth profiles of the nation's 650,000 physicians. Comprehensive reports are fee-based but hospital ratings are free.
Hospital ratings reports for certain diagnoses or procedures come from Medicare files. The information includes 100% of hospitals that participate in the Medicare program. Hospital ratings are updated annually with the most current three years of data on the site at all times. The most current information is typically at least two years old. For example, 2009 hospital quality ratings actually reflect data for years 2005 - 2007.
