Quality and Patient Safety
Quality and Patient Safety
Our Vision — to be remembered by each patient as providing the care and compassion we want for our families and ourselves — is central to the premise that Palmetto Health's responsibility to each patient is to provide the highest standard of quality care possible, focusing on patient safety, striving to reduce patient errors, and using the highest level of evidence-based knowledge possible.
Patients and physicians can look to our performance data to see that the culture of quality being developed within Palmetto Health is showing strong results.
- Not one deep sternal wound infection has been experienced in open heart surgery patients in three years. These infections historically can cause lengthy, serious and often fatal complications.
- Approximately 96 percent of hospital staff is observed to conform to strict hand washing requirements, the greatest single threat to hospital-acquired infections. This high percentage is not enough for Palmetto Health. We expect 100 percent compliance and are working to achieve that.
