CME Mission Statement

Consistent with its overall mission to provide for the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of the residents of South Carolina, Palmetto Health wishes to encourage and support the efforts of its medical staff in providing for their continuing medical education. The CME program seeks to provide high-quality, evidence-based educational opportunities that are designed to advance physician competence, enhance practice performance, promote patient safety, and to improve patient outcomes through the education of our healthcare providers.

Target Audience
Palmetto Health CME activities are designed to meet the educational needs of Palmetto Health physicians and other key stakeholders. By addressing physicians as well as key stakeholders, the overall delivery of care will be effected and provide the best opportunity for improving patient outcomes in our facility. Palmetto Health CME activities are principally attended by the Palmetto Health medical staff, however attendance is open to any interested physicians or health provider, regardless of hospital affiliation.

Types of Activities Provided
The Palmetto Health CME program sponsors activities that include, but are not limited to lecture series, case seminars, and regularly scheduled conferences, procedural skills learning, Performance Improvement CME and Point of Care learning. Palmetto Health also offers enduring materials such as previously recorded video internet CME. 

Palmetto Health also works with other facilities, physician groups and community groups to sponsor or joint-sponsor educational activities which meet the educational needs of the medical staff.

CME activities will reflect the diverse specialties represented within Palmetto Health. Content includes, but is not limited to, quality improvement initiatives, practice management, compliance with regulatory core measures, requested specialty topics, new technological advances and identified needs. Needs are identified through ongoing assessment of the target audience's practice gaps, performance improvement data, patient safety and risk management, requests from medical staff departments, administration, CME program evaluation results and community health reports and/or statistics.

Expected Results of Program
The Palmetto Health CME activities are designed to help practicing physicians and other stakeholders provide quality healthcare services that are consistent with prevailing professional standards of care. Palmetto Health CME is committed to improving patient care and outcomes by increasing physician competence and by reinforcing their knowledge to enable improved quality of care provided to our patients. 

The Palmetto Health CME office is committed to the practice of CME program improvement. The office will actively explore new educational technologies, develop collaborative relationships with other CME providers, and seek to build the capacity to evaluate competency-based outcomes among the clinicians we serve. Currently, Palmetto Health assesses the impact and effectiveness of its CME activities through the use of performance improvement data, regulatory data, post-activity evaluations, pre and/or post-testing and annual CME program evaluations.
