Healthy Aging Program Initiative (HAPI)

The Healthy Aging Program Initiative (HAPI) is a community fitness and wellness program of Palmetto Health. HAPI is open to all adults regardless of age because we firmly believe that healthy aging begins at any age, any time.
HAPI offers an inter-generational approach with classes available during the morning, the afternoon, and after work-perfect for those with busy schedules. HAPI classes provide a flexible routine of gentle conditioning that adapts itself to the needs of the individual.
Specially trained instructors, who are CPR certified and knowledgeable of the physiological effects and benefits of exercise, teach the classes. All classes are specifically adapted to those desiring a gentle pace, while offering a low impact exercise regimen that also incorporates some moderate impact routines and light strength training which includes pilates, tai-chi and step/kick rudiments.
All classes are offered in a four-week long series at convenient locations in the community. Our community partners are Capital Senior Center at Maxcy Gregg Park and the Still Hopes Episcopal Homes Marshall Shearouse Wellness Facility.
To benefit beginners as well as seasoned atheletes, HAPI classes are listed according to intensity levels. All intensity levels will provide excellent fitness benefits and overall strengthening so choose the level which is best for your personal needs.
- Level 1 is ideal for beginners and those needing a light to moderate workout. Because it requires little to no impact, some older adults and those with arthritis or balance problems may find this level beneficial.
- Level 2 is a low to moderate impact grouping of exercise classes designed to give a slightly stronger intensity workout than Level 1.
