Palmetto Health Richland has expanded upon a history of innovation and technology with the newest advancement in minimally invasive surgery. Added to our list of surgical tools is the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System that significantly reduces the size of incisions for prostate, heart and a number of other abdominal surgeries. Robotic-assisted surgeries allow for smaller incisions which mean shorter, less painful post-operative recovery time. By enhancing surgical capabilities, the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System is helping to improve clinical outcomes and redefine standards of care. Patients may experience the following benefits:
Learn more about the robot and the physicians who use it. How does the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System work? The da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System consists of an ergonomically designed surgeon's console, a patient cart with four interactive robotic arms, a high-performance vision system and patented EndoWrist® instruments. While seated at the surgeon's console, the surgeon's hand and finger movements are scaled, filtered and translated into precise movements of the robot at the patient's bedside. The system cannot be programmed and at no time can the da Vinci® operate on its own.
