The primary role of the Outreach Nurses is to provide education for perinatal caregivers. They will customize programs according to the needs of groups being addressed. Some of the courses we provide include:

  • Core neonatal competencies (NRP, STABLE)
  • Core OB competencies (fetal monitoring: basic through advanced) 
  • Recognition and management of complications
  • Stabilization for transport
  • Updates and reviews of standards of care

We also assist with clinical orientation for new or seasoned nursing staff: 

  • Skill and competency reviews at region hospitals
  • Emergency drills (mega codes, shoulder dystocia, placental abruption...)
  • Clinical preceptorships on Palmetto Health Richland units

Perinatal Education Calendar:
Perinatal Systems is pleased to offer a variety of educational programs to serve the needs  of perinatal staff in the Midlands Region. The department coordinates meetings for several groups (i.e. perinatal managers, region perinatal board, state perinatal social workers/case managers, joint hospital and health department meetings). These gatherings provide an opportunity for sharing new things, discussing pressing issues and networking between professionals from different facilities.
