High Risk and Transport Services
Palmetto Health Richland is designated as a Regional Perinatal Center (RPC). We see a very high volume of high-risk mothers and babies. Doctors and caregivers from all over the Midlands send their pre-term or sick patients to our Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists and Neonatologists.
Physicians and midwives who want to arrange transports can call the numbers below; upon indicating the need to send a patient, you will be transferred to a physician who can accept a transport. An MFM, Neonatologist and Pediatric Surgeon are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
To arrange a transport, physicians and midwives should contact the PHR Patient Transfer Center at 1-800-757-4625 or 803-757-4625.
Additional contact information: OB/GYN Chief Resident, 803-434-3787; Neonatologist, 803-434-5886.
Within 48 hours of a transported patient's admission, the referring physician will receive a faxed update from Perinatal Systems about their patient's status. Following discharge, another communication is sent to inform the referring physician of the patient's outcome.
Our MFM and Neonatal Directors and Regional Systems Developer travel out to all area hospitals at least once a year. We visit hospital administrators, OBs, Pediatricians, Family Practitioners, Nurse Midwives and perinatal nurse managers to discuss transports and clinical practices related to high-risk pregnant women and infants.
