Historic Columbia Walking Tour

Palmetto Health Richland Total Joint Center and Historic Columbia Foundation forged a unique partnership that began in 2004. Using Historic Columbia Foundation images as a central theme, the Total Joint Center developed a program that incorporates Columbia's unique history and  historic buildings with patient rehabilitation following surgery.

Historic Columbia Foundation offers a variety of walking tours that allow participants to explore Columbia's historic houses, neighborhoods, churches, cemeteries and other landmarks buildings. On the Total Joint Center floor, a modified Historic Columbia Walking Tour was created for patients. Photography depicting historic Columbia landmarks adorns the walls at 25 foot increments. Patients are encouraged to achieve different walking goals throughout their hospitalization. Upon discharge, patients are given free passes to visit the Historic Columbia Foundation’s house museums as encouragement  to continue walking, exercising and moving their joints.
