Palmetto Health Community Health Center
Quick access to health care is now a lot closer to home for residents of Columbia Housing Authority communities and surrounding neighborhoods. The Celia Saxon Health Center, sponsored by Palmetto Health, is a permanent facility that was established to serve as a medical home for community residents.
Staff members include a clinical nurse specialist, family nurse practitioner, patient educator, LPN, clerk and social worker. Providing preventive care and wellness education is a primary goal of the staff.
A variety of community health initiatives are sponsored through the Center, including...
City Year Public Health Team – 12 Corps members of City Year's Public Health Team are in the community on Thursdays assisting the residents with tasks that they may not be able to complete by themselves — painting, running errands, cleaning, getting a prescription filled.
Women's Support Group – Lead by staff members at the Health Center and Pastoral Services, this weekly support group encourages female residents to develop supportive relationships.
Chaplaincy – Chaplain residents from Palmetto Health's Pastoral Services department work in the community health centers seeing and counseling patients in relation to their spiritual, physical and social needs. These chaplains may provide individual services or serve as a networking bridge between the individual or family and a church, mosque, synagogue or some other type of spiritual group.
Alcoholics Anonymous – Lead by a staff member at the Health Center, an AA group meets monthly to offer support, love and guidance to indivuduals who are experiencing difficulties with alcohol dependence.
