Having a baby is one of the most important events of your life. The experienced staff at The Birthplace of Palmetto Health Baptist delivers more than 4,000 babies each year, more than any hospital in the Midlands. At The Birthplace, we will do everything possible to make your stay as pleasant as possible while maintaining the highest standards of medical care.
The Birthplace is designed for the convenience and privacy of mothers. There are 16 beautiful and spacious private birthing rooms that feature birthing beds (where mothers labor and deliver their babies). There also are 29 beautifully decorated, postpartum rooms that emphasize the special needs of a new mother. If you wish, you may choose to stay in The Nesting Place, where you may keep your baby in your room from the time of birth until it’s time to go home.
We also offer a High Risk Obstetrics Unit for mothers who are in labor prematurely or are sick.
The newborn nurseries are located behind The Birthplace and on the fourth floor OB/GYN unit. The nurse will bring your baby to you when you are ready or you may walk to the nursery when you feel comfortable.
With your permission, we will place your baby's picture on our web site as our free gift to you. This enables family and friends from nearby or far away to quickly share your exciting news.
The Nesting Place
The Nesting Place is a 13-bed unit designed for modified mother and baby care, sometimes called couplet care. After delivery, moms choosing couplet care are encouraged to move from labor and delivery into the Nesting Place. This is an ideal setting for “nesting” or rooming-in with your new baby. In the Nesting Place, one nurse cares for both mother and baby, enhancing the communication process.
As long as your baby’s condition is stable you may keep your baby with you at all times. Our rooming-in policy allows you to care for your baby and to continue the bonding process.
The safety and security of you and your child is of utmost importance to us at Palmetto Health Baptist. Many steps have been taken to assure your safety. Your nurse will instruct you about these steps during your admission process.
Your child should always be in your direct vision. If you need to leave your room or plan to go to sleep, alert your nurse to take your baby to the nursery for safe keeping.
We can't deliver your baby with instructions but we do provide maternal and childbirth classes to get you and your family off to a good start. These classes are designed to make your birth experience positive and rewarding. Our childbirth education program is designed to meet your special education needs and prepare you and your family for your pregnancy, birth, and parenting experience. Each class description lists the time of pregnancy that we recommend you take the class. We encourage you to register in your first trimester. CLASSES FILL QUICKLY SO PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! Payment must accompany all class registrations. Class registrations can be taken over the phone once payment has been received.
Refund Policy: You must cancel five (5) working days prior to class date in order to receive a refund. You will not receive a refund after the scheduled class date.
