At Palmetto Health, we understand the delicate and sensitive health needs of older adults. Our Division of Geriatric Services offers a wide array of services thoughtfully developed to cater to the special needs of the growing population of older adults.
We have long been committed to protecting and preserving seniors’ quality of life and meeting the needs of older South Carolinians, their families, their communities and health care providers through coordinated programs that reinforce our commitment to Service, Education, Research and Community.
Our Geriatric Programs and Services:
Palmetto SeniorCare is our nationally celebrated managed care program for the frail elderly.
Senior Primary Care Practice is a primary care medical practice that serves only Medicare-eligible patients age 65 and older.
Research Physical Therapy Specialists is a clinical collaboration between Palmetto Health and the University of South Carolina Physical Therapy Program that provides therapy specialists in orthopedics, geriatrics and/or vestibular assessment and rehabilitation.
Palmetto Health Senior Consulting helps states and other organizations nationwide establish PACE programs for frail seniors.
Education and Research is a program that targets the enhancement of geriatric skills of licensed physicians.
Palmetto Health is proud to be a NICHE Designated Hospital. NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) certification, is a geriatric initiative dedicated to improving the care of hospitalized patients over the age of 65 through:
Enhanced nursing knowledge and skills in the treatment of older adult patients
Proven strategies and methods to address issues specific to older patients
Improved clinical outcomes
Greater patient and family satisfaction
