Volunteer opportunities are available at Palmetto Health Richland in the following areas...

Adult Acute Care Services – Assemble charts, run errands, deliver supplies to other departments within the hospital, fill water pitchers for patients, sort and distribute lab results. 
Monday–Sunday: 8 a.m.–8 p. m.

Child Life – Interact with patients while playing games. Assist with various planned activities. An additional interview and orientation with the Child Life specialist is required.
Monday–Sunday: Hours vary.

Clinical Trials (Palmetto Health Cancer Centers) – Assist with clerical work. If interested in Clinical Trials, seminars and participation is available.
Monday–Friday: 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Critical Care Waiting Area  – Assist families in the waiting area.  Help monitor visiting hours and directing visitors. An additional interview with Patient Relations and ICU patient liaison is required. 
Monday–Sunday: 9 a.m.–9 p.m.

Diabetes Education – Assist with filing, making patient charts, greeting patients and answering phones.                        
Monday–Friday: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

Emergency Department – Provide assistance to patients and family members in the emergency department reception area. 
Monday–Friday: 10 a.m.–11 p.m.

Flower Delivery – Log in flowers that are delivered to the flower delivery room by florists.  Deliver flowers to patient rooms. If patients have been discharged, log information and call florist for flower pick-up

Gift Shop – Price merchandise, restock shelves, help with displays and assist with sales.
Weeknights: 5:30–8:30 p.m.; Saturdays: noon–5:30 p.m.; Sunday: 1 p.m.– 5:30 p.m.

Heart Hospital – Assist greeting visitors and giving information as requested.  Some computer knowledge preferred. 
Monday–Sunday: 8:30 a. m.–5 p.m. 

HELP Program – HELP (Hospital Elder Life Program) volunteers work with the older patient population. they work directly with medical and nursing staff, providing hands-on cre to patients age 65 or older. Volunteers help patients maintain their cognitive andphysical functioning. Training is required.

Information Desk(s) – The main hospital needs volunteers to assist in greeting visitors and giving information as requested. Some computer knowledge preferred.
Monday–Sunday: 8:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m.

Total Joint Center 
Administrative: Assist Total Joint Center manager scheduling patients for pre-operative class, help with mailing of information packets and assemble patient supply bags. 
Monday – Friday: 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Patient Contact: Rehab gym, Total Joint Center community lunch room, patient rooms. Distribute coach's menus, distribute lunch trays, issue daily newsletter, visit with patients and family members, fill ice bags. May have an opportunity to serve as a coach for a patient who does not have one. 
Monday–Sunday: 9 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.

Mail Room – Assist staff with sorting patient and physician mail.
Monday–Friday: 8 a.m.–3 p.m.

Materials Management – Working PYXIS stations.  Help establish material requirement supplies for Richland, re-labeling PYXIS stations, identifying parts, data analysis. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. and attend meetings.  Additional training: PYXIS training, inventory management training, product layout, computer training. 
Monday–Thursday: 8:30 a.m.– 5 p.m.

Medical Staff Affairs – Assist Credentials Coordinators with their duties, perform audits of credentials files as requested, assist with telephones and clerical duties. 
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

NICU – Answer telephone, direct visitors and follow-up on patients delivering that day with families in the lobby. 
Monday–Friday: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

Nursing Orientation – Clerical duties: make copies, put booklets together, filing, answer phones and some data entry. 
Tuesday and Thursday: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

Pediatric Oncology Clinic (Children's Hospital) – Interact with patients by playing games and doing art activities. Assist staff in cleaning the play area and helping with some clerical duties.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9 a.m.–noon
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 12:30 p.m.–4 p.m.

Pediatric Surgery Holding Area – Assist families in the waiting area and keep family members informed of patient's status. Work directly with hospital staff. Good communication skills are needed.
Monday–Friday: 7 a.m.–6 p.m.

Radiology – Assist the Radiology front desk staff. Greet patients checking into the Radiology Lobby on the 2nd floor. Provide directions to patients and visitors looking for other areas of the hospital. 
Monday – Friday: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Rehabilitation Care Center – Fax therapist's reports to doctor's offices, filing, help with taking referrals for new patients. Helping with the purging of charts, taking patients back for their new evaluations, pulling charts for "Chart One" to come in and copy the medical records. Learn how to verify insurance. Help administrative staff answer phone and reception duties. Possibility of doing Medicare Certification. 
Monday–Friday: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Ronald McDonald Family Room – Greet patients, families, physicians and visitors utilizing services available at Children's Hospital, maintain family logbook, maintain Family Waiting Room in a neat and orderly manner, restock refrigerator with snacks and supplies, ensure that the Family Waiting Room rules are followed.  Monday – Friday: 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Saturday: 9 a.m.–Noon; closed on Sunday.

Surgery Waiting Area – Assist families in the waiting area and keep family members informed of patient's status. Work directly with hospital staff. Good communication skills are needed.
Monday–Friday: 7 a.m.–6 p.m.

Trauma Services – Assist in sorting and filing trauma registry data sheets, read and abstract user defined data from the EMS run sheets, enter data into the trauma registry, assemble injury prevention information packets. 
Monday–Sunday: 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
