Palmetto Health is sponsoring the annual “Hearts and Hands Forever Walk” from 3–4:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21 at Riverfront Park. In case of rain, the event will be held in Palmetto Health Baptist Auditorium, 1501 Sumter St., first floor. The one-fourth mile memorial walk is designed for anyone who has been affected by the loss of a baby, either through miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, neonatal or newborn death.
“The walk is a chance for families who have experienced infant loss to come together to remember their loved ones,” said Rosalie Blair, social worker at Palmetto Health Baptist and one of the coordinators of the walk. “Our hope is that this event will give families a place to share their stories, learn from one another and experience positive methods to help them heal.”
At the start of the walk, participants will be invited to wear a ribbon of remembrance and nourish a tree planted seventeen years ago when the first walk was held. After the walk, there will be a brief memorial service in the amphitheatre of Riverfront Park. Light refreshments will be served.
Palmetto Health also invites parents who have experienced infant or pregnancy loss to join the support group “Wee Remember.” The group meets 6:30–8 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month in Palmetto Health Baptist’s Pastoral Counseling Seminar Room.
