June 2: MaterniTea Support Group
Mothers and their babies are encouraged to join MaterniTea, a free breast feeding support group. The group will meet 5-6 p.m. on Monday, June 2, at Palmetto Health Richland, 5 Richland Medical Park Dr., in the fourth-floor Birthplace classroom. June 3: Infant CPR Class
Learn how to save your baby’s life in an emergency by attending Palmetto Health’s Infant CPR Class on Tuesday, June 3, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Palmetto Health Richland, 9 Richland Medical Park Dr., Suite 130. The class will illustrate infant CPR techniques from certified instructors. Participants will get the chance to practice CPR and choking maneuvers on infant mannequins. June 5: Men’s Health Screenings
Palmetto Health’s Office of Community Health is offering free health screenings in June to help the community start good healthy habits this spring. These screenings will take place Thursday, June 5, 7-10 a.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., in the ground-floor auditorium. Screenings offered include PSA blood tests (for men who qualify based on age and risk), total cholesterol (including lipid profile), glucose, blood pressure, BMI and body fat. Fasting is required 12 hours prior to screening. To register for a screening, call 803-296-CARE (2273). June 6: Teen Health Summit
Palmetto Health invites teens and parents to the 2014 Teen Health Summit, “One Night Stand: If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything,” Friday, June 6, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., at Dreher High School, 3319 Millwood Ave. This free event will help teens learn the consequences of risky behavior, which often increases during the summer. Students in grades six to12 are invited. Registration and parent/guardian permission are required. Free transportation is available for the Lower Richland community. Pick-up times and locations are as follows:
• 7 a.m. at Webber Elementary, 140 Webber School Road, Eastover
• 7:30 a.m. at Lower Richland High School, 2615 Lower Richland Blvd., Hopkins

June 7: Men’s Health Day
Men are invited to attend Palmetto Health’s seventh annual Men’s Health Day, a free breakfast and screening event, on Saturday, June 7, 7-11 a.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., ground-floor auditorium. This year’s theme is “There’s Strength in Numbers: Do You Know Yours?” The event will begin with health screenings, 7-9 a.m. Those who qualify can receive free screenings for prostate cancer, diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, BMI and body fat. During breakfast, which begins at 9 a.m., health professionals will discuss a variety of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testosterone health, stroke and diabetes. June 9-14: CAMP KEMO
Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital presents CAMP KEMO, a weeklong summer camp for children with cancer and blood disorders and their siblings ages 5-18, June 9-14, at Camp Kinard, near Batesburg-Leesville. CAMP KEMO was one of the nation’s first pediatric oncology camps and hosts more than 100 children each year. The camp is made possible by the support of statewide patrons whose donations allow the children to attend at no charge. For more information, visit CampSite.PalmettoHealth.org.

June 10: Bariatric Surgery Seminar
Learn more about weight loss surgery at one of Palmetto Health Weight Management Center’s free seminars. The Bariatric Surgery Seminar will take place Tuesday, June 10, 6-7 p.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., in the ground-floor auditorium. Excess weight can limit your activities, erode your health and diminish your quality of life. The Weight Management Center at Palmetto Health offers real hope for lasting weight loss through bariatric surgery. June 11: Safe Sitter® Babysitting Course
Want to learn more about babysitting? Attend Palmetto Health’s Safe Sitter® babysitting course on Wednesday, June 11, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., ground-floor Classrooms A & B. The one-day course, designed for teens ages 11-14, will provide information on nurturing childcare techniques, basic life-saving techniques, safety precautions and how and when to call for help. Each participant will receive a Safe Sitter Basics manual, a completion card and a t-shirt. The class costs $75. Registration is required and space is limited. June 12: Lymphedema Support Group
Individuals and caregivers dealing with lymphedema are invited to join Palmetto Health’s free lymphedema support group. The group will meet Thursday, June 12, 11 a.m.-noon, at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., ground-floor Meeting Room II. Diabetes Seminar
People living with diabetes and their family members are invited to attend an educational diabetes seminar Thursday, June 12, 5:30-6:30 p.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., ground-floor Classrooms D & E. June 14: Family Health Festival
Palmetto Healthy Start invites families to attend a free family health festival on Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Granby Gardens Park in Cayce. The festival celebrates children and families through games, music, food and activities for all ages. Free health screenings will be provided and health and safety information booths will be available. No registration is required. Participants are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and tents. June 26: Walk for Life/ Race for Life Team Captains Kick-off
Join Palmetto Health Foundation for the Walk for Life/Race for Life Team Captains Kick-off on Thursday, June 26, noon-1:15 p.m., at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds, in the Rosewoods building. The kick-off is an informational meeting for anyone interested in becoming a team captain for this year’s Walk for Life/Race for Life event that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Finlay Park. Participants will learn how to lead a team to raise money for Palmetto Health Breast Center and will get a snapshot of what’s new this year. CPR and BLS Classes
The Palmetto Health-USC School of Medicine Simulation Center offers several classes open to the public. American Heart Association CPR and BLS (Basic Life Support) classes are offered weekly on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons; cost is $75. Heart Saver CPR classes are offered two Tuesday afternoons each month; cost is $50. All classes begin at 1:30 p.m. and course materials and a certification card are included. Free Diabetes Screenings
Palmetto Health offers free diabetes screenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:45-7:20 p.m., at 1801 Sunset Dr.; Thursdays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., Office of Community Health. To find out if you qualify or to register, call 803-296-CARE (2273).

Free Cancer Screenings
Palmetto Health offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30-7 p.m., and the second Saturday of every month, 8 a.m.-noon at Palmetto Health Women’s Center, 1801 Sunset Dr. Free prostate cancer screenings, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test and digital rectal exam, are offered the fourth Thursday of every month, 5:30-7 p.m. at 1801 Sunset Dr. Free PSA blood test prostate cancer screenings also are offered every Thursday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St. Find out more and see if you qualify for the free screenings by calling 803-296-CARE (2273) or visit PalmettoHealth.org/CommunityHealth for a full list of screening events.
