EVENT: The healing power of music will fill the atrium at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital as a string quartet plays children’s favorites and classical music for hospitalized children and their families.
WHEN: Tuesday, Feb. 11
TIME: 10:30-11:30 a.m.
PLACE: Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital Atrium, 7 Richland Medical Park Dr., first floor
ABOUT: “Music can be a healing tool that restores the soul,” said Frank Clark, M.D., a general psychiatry resident at Palmetto Health. ”It is a form of medicine that strives to revitalize the community at large.” Clark serves on the board of the South Carolina Philharmonic and his goal is to make this an ongoing event at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. The concert was funded by an anonymous donor who hopes that others will follow.
Music therapist Becca Kelly is part of the Child Life team at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. She provides music therapy throughout the hospital and worked with Clark to make arrangements for the concert.
